During his 22- year career with Accenture, a global management consulting and technology services company, he served in a variety of IT leadership and operational roles for large, complex, and diverse institutions of higher education and state government, including five years as managing partner for Accenture’s USA higher education practice. When he retired as a senior partner in 2006, Mr. Englert had a proven track record in IT operations, large scale information systems implementations, and strategic IT planning for a number of major institutions of higher education. He was in charge of the creation of the first information technology strategic plan for the 15 institutions of The University of Texas System (UT System), which included far-reaching strategic IT initiatives such as establishing the digital library assets, expanding network capability, and launching the UT System information technology governance structure and process.

Frederick R. Chang is the AT&T Distinguished Chair in Infrastructure Assurance and Security at The University of Texas at San Antonio. He is also Professor in the Department of Information Systems and Technology Management, and holds a courtesy faculty appointment in the Department of Computer Science. 1st Members Network Meeting (Oct. 6th, 2009)

Members social after the forum
This was the first members network meeting for KSEA Austin chapter. The Austin Forum provides a great venue for members network as well as open discussion about current issues in science & engineering area.

Dr. Ray Orbach was the inaugural speaker for the Forum. Dr. Orbach is the new director of The University of Texas at Austin's Energy Institute. Prior to his directorship, Orbach was the U.S. Department of Energy's first undersecretary for science. The title of the talk was "Transformational Changes from Energy Research: From Deal Killers to Academy Award".

The talk presented his insight into future energy plan of US with the current threat of global warming. Though it was presented in general terms, the audience enjoyed his keen opinion with his great experience in the field.

Sixteen of KSEA Austin chapter members joined the event (including 5 new members). Members reaction to the talk was very positive, and it showed that the Austin Forum provides a great experience for the chapter.

After the forum, chapter members had a social gathering at nearby pub and had a great time. All of us are expected to come to the forum again and are hoping to see more members participation in the future.

Please check out http://www.austinforum.org for more information about speakers, presentation title, and future schedule of the Austin Forum.
